Civil Citation

CIVIL CITATION PROJECT:

The goals and objectives of this initiative with the 13th Judicial Circuit are to:
1)provide an immediate consequence for a child that commits their 1st or 2nd misdemeanor offense that occurs within the Hillsborough County School System.
2)Improve school attendance and keep the child from getting a criminal record
3)Provide for community based restorative justice utilizing a multi-disciplinary approach that addresses risk factors, co-occurring disorders and family issues that can be linked to the child's delinquent behavior

Significant research shows that dealing with low level first time juvenile misdemeanor offenders in a deliberate and timely fashion, in order to address their delinquent behavior, is an effective means of preventing them from re-offending.

"CAPS" COLLABORATIVE:

In collaboration with Cicuit 13 Department of Juvenile Justice, the Comprehensive Approach to Prevention Services (CAPS) provides an array of community based service options to meet the needs of Hillsborough County youth who are most likely to become chronic juvenile offenders.  CAPS provides at-risk youth access to any or all of the service options offered within the collaborative.  Each service option offers assessment, a main service component (mentoring, case management, etc) and ancillary services supporting that component.  The program works to assist families and their children, primarily involved with truancy court, to stabilize and improve their lives, and reduce the likelihood of the youth becoming involved with the Juvenile Justice System.
